On June 2, 2009, supporters of Sanctuary for Families gathered at Pier Sixty in New York City to attend the 14th Annual Zero Tolerance Benefit. More than 1600 people attended the event, which raised more than $1.3 million to benefit Sanctuary.
Over the past year, a group of domestic violence survivors worked with Sanctuary intern Chelsea Heacock to capture their experiences of violence through different artistic forms. The results of this undertaking form the basis of a new project called Chingaari.
Some of the most compelling advocates against domestic violence are those who have experienced violence personally. Our Mentors Program taps into the strength and courage of survivors and trains them to educate others.
