On Sunday June 27th, a large group of Sanctuary staff and supporters marched down Fifth Avenue in the 41st Annual New York City Pride March.  Proclaiming “In love there is no violence” to the crowds of spectators along the route, the group raised awareness about domestic violence in LGBT communities and the services available through Sanctuary for Families.

The LGBT Pride March is a day for celebration, activism, and remembrance of those whose lives have been lost to violence and AIDS in the LGBT community. The LGBT Pride Day in New York City is one of the most exciting and entertaining festivals of the year.

Sanctuary’s LGBT Initiative works with victims of domestic violence and community-based organizations serving lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities to ensure that victims have access to safety and justice.  Through outreach, advocacy, and direct legal and counseling services, Sanctuary reaches a growing number of LGBT clients every year. LGBT victims of domestic violence often face additional barriers to escape abusive relationships.

Sanctuary actively seeks to ensure the protection and rights of LGBT survivors and to increase awareness about the challenges faced by individuals in these communities.
