Sanctuary for Families hosts a number of special events each year. Events range from forums educating the public about aspects of domestic violence to large fundraising galas. Below are just a few of the events that occur throughout the year. Abely Awards:The Abely Awards commemorate the life and work of Maryellen Abely each year by honoring people who have made a difference in the lives of victims of domestic violence through advocacy and pro bono work. The event is co-sponsored by Columbia University Law School and Davis Polk & Wardwell. Above & Beyond: Pro Bono Achievement Awards and BenefitA benefit to celebrate Sanctuary’s Center for Battered Women’s Legal Services and honor members of the legal community who have gone “above and beyond” by providing outstanding pro bono representation and advocacy to domestic violence victims. Policy Forums:Each year Sanctuary sponsors a policy forum that raises awareness around issues affecting our clients. In 2007, Sanctuary presented "Between Two Worlds: Domestic Violence, Immigration, and Human Rights."K/a> In 2008, Sanctuary presented "Children and Domestic Violence: A Blueprint for Helping New York's Smallest Victims." Zero Tolerance Benefit:The benefit is an exciting and elegant evening for more than 1,600 prominent New Yorkers from the fashion, business and legal communities who join in support of Sanctuary’s work with victims of domestic violence and their children.
